BEIRUT (AP) ? Fighting over Syria's largest city intensified Friday with some of the fiercest battles in two months as rebel forces launched a new offensive to rout President Bashar Assad's forces from Aleppo, activists said.
The city of 3 million, once a bastion of support for Assad, has emerged as a key battleground in Syria's civil war. Its fall would give the opposition a major strategic victory with a stronghold in the north near the Turkish border. A rebel defeat, at the very least, would buy the regime more time.
Activists reported some of the fiercest clashes yet between rebels and government forces in Aleppo, where the two sides have been stalemated for weeks.
Fighters from the main rebel group known as the Free Syrian Army began a new push to drive regime forces from their strongholds Aleppo, Syria's commercial capital on Thursday, calling it the "Decisive Battle," activists said.
The Syrian military sent text message on cellular telephones to members of the armed rebellion reading: "Game over."
Aleppo had been relatively quiet until rebels stormed parts of it in late July. Neither side has been able to deliver a decisive blow, despite sporadic clashes.
"The city is witnessing one of the most violent days. All fronts are on fire," said Aleppo-based activist Baraa al-Halabi. He said clashes had broken out in neighborhoods including Midan, old Aleppo, Maysaloun, Azamiyeh, Salaheddine, Seif al-Dawla and Sheikh Maksoud.
Some activists and rebels said that members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which for decades had close ties with the Syrian government, were participating in the Aleppo battles for the first time since the uprising against Assad's regime began in March last year.
Al-Halabi said some of the heaviest battles were taking place in a predominantly Kurdish area of Sheikh Maksoud where PKK fighters were fighting alongside regime forces. The major rebel group in the city ? the Tawhid Brigade ? said on its Facebook page that its members have entered the neighborhood and fought with PKK gunmen there.
However, another Aleppo-based activist, Mohammed Saeed, said PKK fighters withdrew shortly after the fighting began without taking part in the battle.
Meanwhile, state-run Syrian TV says government troops repulsed an attack on the neighborhood with the help of its residents.
Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the pro-government gunmen in Sheikh Maksoud are local Syrians known as "Mardiliyeh" ? a clan known to support the regime.
The reports could not be independently confirmed because the government has imposed tight restrictions on the media.
In July, government forces withdrew from Kurdish areas in northeastern Syria and were quickly replaced by Kurdish fighters from the Kurdish Democratic Union Party, or PYD. The group is affiliated with the PKK, rebels fighting for autonomy in the Kurdish-dominated southeast region of Turkey. The PKK maintains bases in northern Iraq from where they launch hit-and-run attacks on Turkish targets.
Government forces also stormed several tense neighborhoods in the Syrian capital, Damascus, activists said. Troops raided homes looking for activists in Barzeh, Jobar and Qaboun, according to the Observatory and the Local Coordination Committees.
Both groups also reported some fighting between rebels and troops in and near the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk.
When Syria's unrest began, the country's half-million Palestinians at first struggled to stay on the sidelines. But in recent months, young Palestinian refugees ? enraged by mounting violence and moved by Arab Spring calls for greater freedoms ? have been taking to the streets and even joining the rebels.

The images of the pictures of the trainers are gigantic while the pictures in firefox chrome or safari are normal sized. I'm assuming it is a quirk with ie with css but I'm experienced enough to know what specifically should be fixed.
UPDATE: I have fixed the images part displaying the correct size but the cell that the picture is in is still the same size as when the picture was huge. What could be causing the cell to be huge in IE but not firefox, chrome, safari.

Check this out.? http://www.ma-rooned.com/2012/09/ktkc-prize-spotlight-mhi-mega-package.html
I?ve known Jay Grazio on the internet, but met him for the first time on tour while in Boston. He is doing Kilted To Kick Cancer. Check it out. There is a raffle, and tickets are $10 each. One of the prizes is a Monster Hunter prize pack. It has all of my books autographed, an autographed Legion poster, and best of all, a redshirting.
The redshirting means that I will use your name and basic description (as much as I can) and use you as a character in Monster Hunter Nemesis. And since Franks kills a LOT of people in Nemesis, you will probably be one of them. Though stranger things have happened, and my previous charity redshirts have wound up in all sorts of weird places and some have turned into pretty big supporting characters.
This is a raffle, so it is like gambling. So you may lose, and somebody else will get redshirted, but hey, either way you get to give to a good cause and help fight prostate cancer!
The next chance to get redshirted will be during the MHI Employee Handbook and Role Playing Game Kickstarter we are running in October.

There?s nothing that can make buying real estate easy, but the first purchase is always the hardest. Many first-time buyers feel overwhelmed by the cost and commitment of a property purchase. Use the following advice to help ease your worries, increase your confidence and hopefully, your success.
Be informed about the different types of houses located in the neighborhood which you?re interested in. You don?t always want to shoot for the biggest house in any particular neighborhood. If you decide to sell the house in the future, it will be difficult for you to obtain the value of the house. This is because every other competing house in the neighborhood will cost less.
During the home purchasing process, make sure you hire the people you rely on for expertise. Do not hire the appraiser or inspector chosen by the seller. Hiring your own appraiser can be an extra cost, but it will be worth it. Nevertheless, you can benefit greatly from hiring your own professionals who are trustworthy and will be working for your best interests. This is one situation where learning the truth can potentially save you thousands of dollars and much heartache.
TIP! Find a trustworthy partner to work with when buying a large and expensive commercial property. It will facilitate the qualification process for the commercial property loan.
It is important to get pre-qualified for a home loan before you go searching for a house. It is very discouraging to find the perfect home only to find you can?t get a loan for it. Getting approved for a loan also takes quite a bit of time, so it is best to get this out of the way as soon as possible.
Go for your dream home. Some investors say that it isn?t a good time for buying or selling larger houses, but some disagree. This may be the best time to buy your dream property because housing prices are expected to rise.
Homes that back up to busy roads are not as appealing as those that are in quieter areas. Don?t purchase a bargain property that will only earn you a minimal amount of rental income. You might be okay with this noise, but it will be harder to sell it if you want to move.
TIP! A home should only have a fireplace located in the family room unless the property is located in a particularly chilly climate. It can be difficult to keep up with fireplaces, especially if you don?t use them.
The first thing to do before you even move your family or furnishings into the new house, is to buy insurance. If you put this off your insurance will not cover anything that happens, disaster can happen at any time!
When considering a home, hire only professional inspectors. It will require a fair amount of money, but the advantage over having someone you know inspect the home is that you can hold a bad inspection against a professional inspector, while there is little you can do to a relative.
Have any questions you wish to ask your potential real estate agent written out so you don?t forget anything important. Ask them for important information. This can include how many houses they have sold in the past twelve months and how many they sold near the location you?re looking at. A reputable agent will definitely be able to answer all questions you have.
TIP! When interviewing agents to help you through the buying process, find out how long each agent has lived in the town or area in which you are searching. A long-term resident will know more about the community?s infrastructure, local laws and neighborhood characteristics that a newcomer may not know.
Real estate agents need to get a hold of their former clients during anniversaries and holidays of their date of purchase. When they hear from you again, they will know that they helped during your buying selling experience. When you are done with your greeting, make sure they know that you are working as a referral and would love for them to recommend you to anyone they know.
When you are negotiating the price of real estate, it is best to have a moderate approach. Many people get too aggressive so that they can get a great deal, and they end up overdoing it and losing it. Simply state your preferences and then let the lawyer and the Realtor handle the negotiations as their job descriptions require!
Try not to be discouraged if the seller of a home you want to purchase does not accept your offer, often times sellers are willing to negotiate different aspects of the sale with you, to make the sale still possible. Such possibilities include offering to cover your closing costs or even do some upgrades and repairs to the property prior to your taking up residence.
TIP! Before you begin searching for a new home, get a copy of your credit report. After you have the credit report in hand, review your copy and report any inaccuracies that you might find.
When looking to purchase a new home, it is very important to avoid the trap of judging a house based on its decor. Smart sellers hide their house?s flaws with decorative items, so you need to learn how to look past the decor and analyze a home based on its architecture and structural condition. If you base your buying decisions on only the home?s decor, you could pay for it later because you failed to see a large structural problem.
After reading this, are you fired up now about buying some property? These tips should help you get rid of your worries! Utilize the tips that fit into your particular circumstances in order to have maximum success. Purchasing real estate shouldn?t be hard. It feels great to finally own property! All you have to do is calculate its cost, and always make smart

A Look at Food and Wine Pairing from Penrose Room Sommelier Greg Shields
One of my favorite things about being a sommelier is the challenge of successfully pairing wine with food so that both are enhanced when enjoyed together. There are many different ways to approach wine and food pairing, but here are a few of the most popular techniques: Try to match similar flavors in both the food and wine. For example: Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley in France tends to have a mild grapefruit citrus flavor that would pair very well with a poached lobster salad served with fris?e and segments of ripe pink grapefruit.

Opposite of the first technique, you can also pair wine with foods that have contrasting flavors. For example, the sweetness of a vintage port contrasts the saltiness of a full flavored blue cheese. Another idea is to choose a wine that contributes complementary flavors to the dish, such as the blackberry, green pepper, and cocoa notes that a California Cabernet Sauvignon brings to a grilled rib eye steak. None of those flavors are found with the steak, but they go well with the rib eye and add another layer of flavor to the dish just like a blackberry, bell pepper, and cocoa reduction would if it were the sauce for the steak.
?
If all of this seems a bit complex, then there is one rule that if followed will give you a good wine and food pairing most of the time ? to match the weight of the wine with the weight of the food. The weight (or body) of a wine refers to the fullness, concentration, and total mouth feel of a wine. A light-bodied wine would have less concentrated flavor, while a full-bodied wine would be noticeably more concentrated. Weight of food is similar to that of wine, and richer foods generally contain more fat such as cream, butter, or marbled fat like that found in salmon or beef.?
?Cooking techniques also affect the weight of food, for example a poached salmon fillet will be lighter in body than a grilled salmon fillet. Finally, if food is served with a sauce, the sauce can also add weight to the dish. One example would be how a roasted cauliflower salad served with a simple drizzle of extra virgin olive oil would be considerably lighter in body than the same salad served with a cumin and garlic aioli. It is important to consider all aspects of the dish when judging its weight in order to accurately pair wine with it. So let?s see how these techniques really work?. Here is an example of a 3 course wine paired meal that fits well into the fall season utilizing fresh products that are available now from local farmers markets and grocery stores. I?ve also used a few of my favorite wines to pair with that are reasonably priced and available at several places locally.
1st Course Roasted Butternut Squash Soup paired with Piper-Heidsieck Brut Champagne from France. I love pairing dry sparkling wines with creamy soups because the carbonation in the wine helps to cut through the richness of the soup. This particular Champagne also has a more pronounced honey flavor and with its other flavors of yellow apple and toasted almonds, makes a great complementary/contrasting pair with the slightly sweet squash soup.
?
Find this Champagne at The Penrose Room, and local wine shops such as Coal Train Wine and Spirits.
2nd Course Grilled Colorado Lamb Loin Paired with Gaja Ca? Marcanda Promis Super Tuscan. This Super Tuscan blend, in addition to Sangiovese and Merlot, uses Syrah instead of Cabernet Sauvignon to add flavors of blackberry, cherry, and black pepper to the wine. This wine is rich, but still delicate enough to not overpower the lamb and makes a great complementary pairing.??? Find this wine at The Penrose Room, and local wine shops.

3rd Course Caramelized Figs with Honey and Toasted Walnuts paired with Torres ?Floralis? Aqua d?Or Moscatel.

This late harvest dessert wine is bursting with flavors of roasted orange, honey, and golden raisins. The wine is sweet, but has some good acidity which keeps it balanced and fresh. There are many flavors in this wine that match those in the dessert, making this a perfect fall dessert course. Find this wine at The Penrose Room, Summit, and local wine shops.
I always encourage people to experiment with food and wine pairings while keeping in mind some of the techniques discussed above. If nothing else, it?s a good excuse to eat good food and drink delicious wine. Don?t forget the most important part of it all?..have fun with it!

Which of the following three statements comes closest to your position on the legal rights of gay and lesbian couples in Illinois
Gay/lesbian couples should be allowed to legally marry 43.6%
Gay/lesbian couples should be allowed to form civil unions 31.8%
There should be no legal recognition of relationships between gay and lesbian couples 20.2%

* Compare those results to how the numbers looked two years ago, in the 2010 Paul Simon Public Policy Institute poll?
Which of the following three statements comes closest to your position on the legal rights of gay and lesbian couples in Illinois?
Gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to legally marry 33.6%
Gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to form civil unions, which would give them some legal rights 33.9%
There should be no legal recognition of relationships between gay and lesbian couples 26.5%

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ? In one TV ad, a husband and wife talk fondly of a lesbian couple who moved into their neighborhood. In another, a married couple speaks of wanting fair treatment for their lesbian daughter. A third features a pastor talking supportively about gay unions.
Each of these ads ran recently in states with gay marriage issues on the November ballot. What's missing? Gay people speaking for themselves.
Four states are voting on gay marriage this fall, and gay rights groups are pouring tens of millions of dollars into key TV markets in hopes of breaking a 32-state losing streak on the issue. But even as gay people and same-sex relationships gain acceptance through pop culture staples such as "Modern Family" and "Glee," the idea is still seen as dicey by media strategists involved in the ballot campaigns, resulting in ads that usually involve only straight people talking about the issue.
The decision to keep gays in the background has been widely noticed in the gay community and debated on gay-oriented blogs, with some activists complaining that the move contradicts the central message of the gay rights movement for a number of years.
"If we don't show ourselves, people aren't going to get comfortable with who we are," said Wayne Besen, director of Vermont-based gay rights group "Truth Wins Out," one of many that presses gays to live openly with pride in who they are.
But others counsel deference for the complexities of public messaging, pointing out that the ads are designed to speak to the fears and values of the heterosexual majority, whose vote will decide the issue.
"The moderate tough guys we need to flip to win a couple of these races are still the ones who say that gays are gross," said Andy Szekeres, a Denver-based fundraising consultant who has worked on several state campaigns and had access to focus group data. "Pushing people to an uncomfortable place, it's something you can't do in a TV ad," said Szekeres, who is gay.
The definition of marriage is on the ballot this fall in Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington. Beyond those, according to the Human Rights Campaign, 37 states prohibit gay marriage while six and the District of Columbia permit it. Gay activists and their allies are hoping that any wins in November would throw new momentum their way at a time when polls nationwide have shown growing acceptance for gay marriage.
Six of the seven ads broadcast in the contested states this year have featured only straight people talking about the issue. One ad, which played only in Maine, included a firefighter who talked of being accepted by his colleagues. The ads, along with most that ran in the 2008 campaign in California and in other past statewide races, rely on heterosexual family members and friends of gays talking about how the inability to marry has deprived their loved ones of rights and opportunities they should have.
Gay marriage opponents, who also have well-funded campaigns in the four states, plan to begin airing ads soon. In recent interviews, an organizer said the key message is aimed at parents, suggesting legal recognition could result in their kids being told in school and in society that it's OK to be gay.
Gay activists who have worked on the marketing campaigns say that in this battle for public opinion, it's better for gays to stay in the background.
"The simple truth is that we are trying to win over the people that are not yet with us," said Matt McTighe, campaign manager of Mainers United for Marriage, which is pushing the ballot measure to legalize gay marriage in that state. "I'm a gay man, and the general rule of thumb for me is that an ad that meets my emotional needs is not necessarily the thing that's going to change a typical voter's mind about gay or lesbian people."
A May 2011 poll by the Pew Research Center found growing acceptance of gay people on a number of fronts, but still plenty of doubts. Fifty-eight percent of poll respondents said gays should be accepted in society compared to 33 percent who said they shouldn't. More people thought gays raising children was bad for society rather than good, though the largest number of respondents were neutral on the question. The same poll found 45 percent support for gay marriage rights, up from 35 percent just two years earlier.
The first ad broadcast by Minnesotans United for All Families, which is trying to defeat the state's proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage, is aimed at parents. It features Kim and John Canny ? two straight Catholics, Republicans and parents of three daughters from a Minneapolis suburb who discuss coming around to support gay marriage after a lesbian couple with an adopted son moved into their neighborhood.
The lesbian couple is briefly glimpsed in the ad, but not heard from.
Alexander Zachary, a gay man from Minneapolis, complained that the ads he's seen reflect an "antiquated mindset."
"This isn't San Francisco in 1973, where all the gay people live in one neighborhood and all the straight people live everywhere else," he said. "We're not this hidden culture anymore, so why act like it?"
Richard Carlbom, manager of the Minnesota campaign, declined to say if future Minnesota United ads would feature gay people. Upcoming ads will "articulate why gay people want to get married," he said.
Many straight people "are on a journey on this issue, and the most effective way to encourage them is to show them other people who have taken the same journey," and come to accept gay marriage, Carlbom said.
Bil Browning, a Washington, D.C., gay activist and writer, recently called a straights-only ad that ran in Washington state "a heterosexual snoozefest" on his blog. He pointed out that gay activists seem to be using the strategy even though they've yet to win a campaign. In the 32 states where the issue has been on a statewide ballot, gay marriage advocates have lost every time.

CAIRO (AP) ? A spokesman for Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi said Wednesday that there is currently no need to amend the peace treaty with Israel, despite calls in Cairo to revise the 1979 accord to allow the country to beef up its presence in the Sinai Peninsula to combat militants there, the state news agency reported.
For years, many Egyptians have considered the limitations on troop deployments to impinge on national sovereignty. Egyptian political groups including the Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi hails, have called for revising the treaty, particularly as lawlessness in the peninsula has increased since the uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.
The Jewish state has allowed Egypt to temporarily strengthen its forces in the Sinai to fight Islamist militants who have attacked targets both in Egypt and across the border in Israel. But it is opposed to formalizing any changes to the treaty, Israel's first with an Arab country.
The treaty restored Sinai, which Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war, to Egyptian control. Areas near the border were demilitarized, however. The country's hardline foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman said Sunday there was "no chance" Israel would reevaluate the terms of the peace deal.
Yasser Ali, speaking from New York where Morsi is attending the U.N. General Assembly, said Egypt now has the troops it needs in the Sinai to restore security. The military has been conducting a sweep against Islamist militants there following an August assault on an outpost that killed 16 Egyptian soldiers, the worst attack on the army in peacetime.
Ali said the operation is "unhindered" and will continue until it is successful. His comments came in response to published comments by one of Morsi's advisers, who said he will soon present the president with a proposal to amend the 1979 treaty. Mohammed Seif el-Dawla was quoted by the independent Dostor daily as saying the proposed changes, not described, were based on "popular demand and a strategic and security need."
"With all due respect to all political and intellectual luminaries on the presidential advisory panel, only the president and his spokesman speak for the presidency," Ali said, according to the state news agency MENA.
Israel had welcomed the crackdown by Egypt, which deployed armored personnel carriers and attack helicopters to root out militants in the Sinai this summer. But it balked once Egypt sent in tanks, some of which were removed after Israel complained.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Fringe" fans may be feeling bittersweet as the sci-fi TV show enters its final season, but executive producer J.H. Wyman pledged on Wednesday to give fans a satisfying conclusion and "the love letter they deserve."
"Fringe," co-created by J.J. Abrams of "Lost" and "Alias" fame, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, follows a FBI team who use methods outside of mainstream science to solve mysteries relating to a parallel universe.
The fifth and final season, which starts on Friday on Fox, will pick up from the "Letters in Transit" episode in April 2011 that threw the series into year 2036, where the original Fringe team is freed from encasement in amber and must face a dystopian society.
Wyman, also a writer on "Fringe," told reporters in a conference call on Wednesday that he "fell in love" with setting the story in the future, and wanted to focus the final season on the show's characters.
Peter Bishop (played by Joshua Jackson) and Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) provide the main love story of the series as their relationship struggles in the face of time-bending obstacles.
"No love story worth telling is an easy love story. It's the hills and the valleys that make a relationship, in my opinion, really dynamic and worth watching and the harder the tale, the more worthy the pay-off," Wyman said.
While he declined to reveal details of upcoming plots, Wyman said he hoped fans would "enjoy the surprises", and that the ending would satisfy audiences and give the fans "the love letter they deserve."
"I want to feel that my characters evolved in a place that they deserved, sometimes maybe unexpectedly, but logically they've come to a conclusion that makes me feel satisfied," Wyman said.
"I want to tell these real odyssey stories about these people, and give them a little more sense of continuity," he added.
"Fringe," which combines science fiction with elements of police procedural drama, debuted on Fox in 2008 averaging 10 million viewers in its first season. It became a cult favorite, but ratings slipped last season to about 4.2 million viewers.

With little investor interest, the local market largely moved sideways again on Tuesday while liquidity failed to make any improvement. The VN-Index inched up 1.4 points, or 0.36%, from the day earlier to close at 391.77 due to some help from GAS and VNM.
The market opened several points higher and then hit the daily high of 394.06 points before dropping back again by the end of the morning session. In the afternoon, the market traded in a narrow range and closed just above Monday?s close.
Liquidity on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange remained pitiful even with a VND86 billion block trade of VIC. Ending the day, there were only 23.9 million shares worth VND442 billion traded, which was similar to Monday?s levels.
There were 93 advancers but the number of decliners was bigger, at 111. The stocks that went up to the ceiling prices numbered 27 while 41 stocks dropped to the floor prices.
Eximbank (EIB) continued to take the lead in terms of liquidity, rising 2% from the day earlier to VND14,800 per share with two million shares changing hands. Tan Tao Investment Industry Corporation (ITA), the second most actively traded stock, dropped 4.3% to VND4,400 on a volume of 994,000 shares.
Foreigners stayed on the selling side for the second day, offloading VND57.7 billion worth of shares. They accounted for 15% and 28.5% of the market?s buying and selling value respectively.
The Hanoi market dropped for the second straight session while turnover fell to VND137 billion. The HNX-Index lost 0.24 point, or 0.43%, against the previous session and ended the day at 56.22.
Only 58 stocks gained while 112 others lost, including 19 stocks going up to the ceiling prices and 34 stocks dropping to the floor prices. Foreigners accounted for 4.6% of the buying value and 4.9% of the selling value.
HCMC Securities Corp. (HSC) said the markets are drifting sideways for now but with a slight downwards bias.
Domestic trading volumes have been puffed up by some large put-through transactions in recent weeks, which means that normal market trading has dropped to levels not seen since this time last year, HSC commented.
?Underlying sentiment then is quite bearish and stocks are seen as cheap but for now there appears to be no compelling reason to buy them. This reflects the overall macroeconomic picture where despite the fact that we seem to be at the bottom of the cycle, a sputtering credit function means that hopes for a recovery have been postponed,? it added.

A column of smoke rises over Damascus, Syria, on Wednesday after two bomb blasts were reported.
By NBC News staff and wire reports
UNITED NATIONS -- Arab nations should intervene in Syria given the U.N. Security Council's failure to stop the civil war in the country, Qatari Emir Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani said Tuesday.
"The Security Council failed to reach an effective position. In view of this, I think that it is better for the Arab countries themselves to interfere out of their national, humanitarian, political and military duties and do what is necessary to stop the bloodshed in Syria," Sheik Hamad, speaking through an interpreter, said in a U.N. General Assembly speech.
Western powers have made clear they are opposed to direct intervention and the Security Council will not sanction action against the wishes of Russia and China. President Barack Obama on Tuesday?called again for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad?but provided no clear direction forward.
The Syrian conflict grinds on. Cities are under attack leaving them crushed by heavy shelling. NBC's Bill Neely reports.
Sheik Hamad suggested that bypassing the U.N. Security Council would enable a peaceful transition of power in Syria.
"We had a similar precedent when Arab forces intervened in Lebanon in the mid-'70s ... to stop internal fighting there in a step that proved to be effective and useful," he added.

If you're feeling patriotic and want your friends to know it, Facebook has just put out a small but timely new feature that lets you tell everyone when and how you registered to vote.
It's a big election year, and if you're one of the politically?minded who likes to share such things on Facebook, this new feature is a no-brainer. Just go to your Timeline and, where you would normally put?a status update?or photo, select "Life event" and pick "Registered to Vote" under the "Travel and Experiences" heading.
You'll be able to select location and year, and put in a story or link in case you want your friends to have that info as well. There's a little more info at Facebook's blog post about the feature.
If you're actually looking for an easy way to register, there are lots of sites that can help you; your best bet is to search for "register to vote" and find your state's official voting registration page, or use one of the easy services (like Rock the Vote) that finds it for you.

I wanted to share some tips on how to get the best responses from the people you interview. Most of the time, people are nervous in front of a camera and, as the one asking the questions and trying to get good footage, it?s the interviewer?s job to put them at ease. Here?s how I approach it:

Does anyone have other tricks of the trade to share about getting good video testimonials?

Today it?s critical to develop and put into place a smart, effective plan for Internet marketing. Failure to do so can result in a loss of competitive edge, not to mention the loyalty and valuable relationships between your company and its customers. Below are some excellent ideas to boost your Internet marketing.
If you send out regular emails to your customers, or to anyone who has signed up at your site, make sure you vary the emails up so it doesn?t always look the same. Anything that is the same will only lead to your customers ignoring the information you are trying to present to them. Your email readers will be less likely to lose interest if you keep changing up the links in your emails.
Create a game that your customers can play. Customers love to play free games online, and that can keep people coming back for more after they play once. The game can be utilized to subtly advertise products sold at your site. A good example would be a hair styling game if you are a seller of hair products.
TIP! Know about 500 error pages and how to use them. This happens when a code stops working for you.
Use phrases like ?limited edition? or ?special edition? in your online adverting. These phrases make it seem as though the items you are advertising are exclusive and only available for a limited time. These marketing techniques sometimes induce consumers to buy products.
Post images and video relevant to your business to increase interest in your website. Create videos of yourself demonstrating your products and share them on sites such as YouTube. A unique picture with an interesting title can help grab a person?s attention and help make a sale.
Offering customers a discount for spending a certain amount is an excellent strategy in internet marketing. You could reward frequent purchases (tenth order half price) or discounts on large sums, (10% off orders over $200) depending on your sales model. This is a great way to get people to spend more money on your products.
TIP! Reward frequent customers. It is extremely valuable to hold on to the customers that you already have, and your outward generosity will speak volumes about your company.
Offer to give a certain percentage of your business profits to charity to increase the amount of visitors. Clearly advertise this to the visitors, but don?t do it excessively. You also won?t need to give away a lot of your profits. Just make sure that you?re doing your part and people will ultimately respond in a positive fashion.
Finding information on effective marketing strategies does not have to cost a fortune. Many free resources are readily available. There are forums, blogs, local courses, and even free e-books dealing with this subject.
TIP! Create a FAQ on your site. For each issue or question, write a helpful answer, and be sure to mention your products as a solution.
You need to be willing to put in a bit of time to learn the basics of website design. You can find online courses that will teach you HTML, CSS and many other programs that assist with web design. Spending just a half an hour each day learning about web design can give you enough knowledge within a few weeks to work on your site with confidence.
Offer ad space on your website for credible companies to advertise and boost your standing. If you demonstrate an association with big brands, customers will be likely to assign you some extra legitimacy. Ads can help increase traffic, which helps your site rank better and seem like a more important site.
A good website relies on interesting graphics but a site that is too busy will detract from your content. You have a short time to engage a consumer online and you want your site to grab their attention immediately. If you can?t cement their interest in that period, they will more than likely move on.
TIP! Thinking about marketing a product or service online? Try and find ways to get your site visitors to give up their email address so you can come up with an opt-in mailing list. You can hold a contest or offer special incentives for visitors who leave their email address.
Consider a unique approach to creating logos and banners rather than the simple rectangles that some companies use. Rather, try and have them look like links that can be clicked on to get access to more content. Most of the time people don?t click on banners, so be creative and entice them to.
Do not overlook direct marketing as a streamlined complement to your Internet marketing system. Contact your customers via email, phone or fax to let them know about any upcoming specials you may have. You can gather tons of information that you require by looking at phone books and online phone books.
TIP! You have to support any claims you make. A large percentage of Internet users are wary of online claims.
Now that you?ve come to the end of this article, you can see the need to effectively employ Internet marketing within your own business. If you know what you are doing, you can implement an online marketing strategy that will produce great results

ScienceDaily (Sep. 23, 2012) ? Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute have shown how to synthesize in the laboratory an important set of natural compounds known as terpenes. The largest class of chemicals made by living organisms, terpenes are made within cells by some of the most complex chemical reactions found in biology.
The new technique, described in an advance online edition of the journal Nature Chemistry on Sept. 23, 2012, mimics a crucial but obscure biochemical phenomenon that allows cells to make terpenes. The discovery may one day result in cheaper, fully synthetic versions of the cancer drug Taxol, the antimalarial compound artemisinin and hundreds of other useful terpene products.
"It's exciting for us because we're now making molecules that have never been made in the laboratory before, and we've done this by first observing what nature does," said the senior investigator for the study Ryan A. Shenvi, a chemist at Scripps Research.
Powerful Biological Functions
Terpenes take their name from one of their best-known representatives, the paint thinner turpentine -- a derivative of pine sap. Many terpenes, like those in turpentine, are small, plant-made molecules that turn into vapor at relatively low temperatures and waft easily through the air. These often serve as important chemical signals for plants, and are used by humans in fragrances and flavorings.
Some terpenes are more complex, and are synthesized by plants and other organisms as powerful cellular defense mechanisms. "Having such strong biological functions can make them very useful in medicine," said Shenvi. Paclitaxel (Taxol), a widely used cancer drug, is a terpene derived from the bark of the Pacific yew tree. Artemisinin, the basis for a major class of antimalarial therapy, is a terpene made by the sweet wormwood herb. But the terpene family is highly diverse and also includes vitamin A, menthol, cholesterol and steroids.
Many terpenes, including Taxol and artemisinin, are made naturally in cells by processes that are so complicated, and so hard to understand, that chemists haven't been able to recreate them fully using organic chemistry techniques. The commercial production of these two medicines still depends on the relatively expensive harvesting of starting compounds from plants.
Taking Up the Challenge
In the new study, Shenvi and a postdoctoral researcher in his laboratory, Sergey V. Pronin, set out to recreate one of the two major terpene synthesis processes in nature. Known as tail-to-head polycyclization, this process is used by cells to make numerous complex terpenes. (The other major terpene synthesis process, head-to-tail polycyclization, is already partially reproducible with organic chemistry, and results in terpenes that include steroids.)
The tail-to-head polycyclization process begins with a relatively simple chain of carbon atoms, each of which is decorated with other, mostly hydrogen atoms. The goal of the process is to bend this linear hydrocarbon structure in a way that yields one ringlike structure, then another, and so on in a "polycyclic" chain.
A crucial feature of this process is the effective displacement of positive charge from one carbon atom on the structure to another, in just the right sequence. What makes this feat so challenging for chemists to reproduce, and even to analyze, is that this positively charged state in principle can slide along numerous alternative pathways on the emerging structure. Moreover, because it powerfully attracts negatively charged ions, this carbon-based positive charge, which chemists refer to as a carbocation ["carbo-cat-eye-on"], is inclined to snuff itself out almost immediately.
"Carbocations are notoriously tricky to include in synthetic procedures in the laboratory, because their lifetimes are so short," said Shenvi. "And yet nature has evolved tools to handle them."
Chief among these tools are cyclase enzymes, which hold terpene molecules that are under construction and use their own charged structures to protect carbocations from being quenched -- at least long enough to let them do their work. Chemists who have sought to synthesize terpenes in the laboratory generally have done so without trying to mimic these enzymes' charge sequestration mechanism.
"The natural synthetic pathways were assumed to be much too difficult and maybe impossible," Shenvi said. "But we decided that we would have to recreate it somehow if we wanted to develop a broadly useful technique for making this group of terpenes."
Following Nature's Lead
Pronin and Shenvi eventually found that a type of vinyl epoxide seems to serve as a partial substitute for cyclase enzymes. "We think that it effectively holds the negatively charged counteranion, which would otherwise follow and quench the carbocation before the reaction is complete," said Pronin.
As a demonstration of the power of their new technique, the chemists used it to make two different types of terpene, known as funebrene and cumacrene, starting from relatively simple organic chemistry ingredients. These terpene compounds had never before been fully synthesized outside of living cells.
Shenvi emphasizes that this report represents merely an initial, foundational description of this new strategy, and that technical obstacles still prevent its widespread use. "But once we can get past these obstacles, we should be able to use this new approach to fully synthesize many other valuable compounds," he said. "Basically the entire realm of terpenes will be reproducible with organic chemistry."
Funding for the study, "Synthesis of highly strained terpenes by non-stop tail-to-head polycyclization," was provided by a start-up grant from the Scripps Research Institute and a grant from Eli Lilly & Co.

Microsoft Security Advisory (2755801) Update for Vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer 10
MSRC Blog > Security Advisory 2755801 addresses Adobe Flash Player issues
0-day attivamente sfruttata per attacchi (CVE-2012-1535).

When it comes to branding, small business owners often have no clue where to start. But where should they turn for help? Just take a look at sites like Your Logo Makes Me Barf, and you?ll discover an underground community of designers who would rather make fun of the branding missteps of small business owners rather than help them strengthen their identity.
Enter Prestobox, a company that automates brand identity. Prestobox?s new Brand Genie product helps small business owners not only generate a brand identity based on a set of questions about the company, it also gives small business owners the option to purchase the identity across multiple platforms, including business cards and website templates. Brand Genie was tested on over 25 small companies, with 100 percent of the participants calling the process ?easy and fun?. The process is free, and Prestobox offers a number of branding suggestions that include recommended colors, fonts and images.

Prestobox was founded by CEO Elicia Putnam, who partnered with COO/CFO Sara Conte, an experienced angel investor and consultant. Michael Verdine is in charge of the creative side of the team. He is known for his work with Nike.
Putnam came up with the idea for PrestoBox when she was working at her own agency 14 Hands. She found that branding was hard to scale, and many small business owners just couldn?t afford the service. When small businesses try to brand themselves, they often don?t understand how colors, messaging, and images all tell the story of their business.
?We are thrilled to launch PrestoBox and create an affordable, easy and fun software service to solve the challenge of small business branding,? believes Putnam. ?We believe in brands and we believe that every company of every size should have one.?
The market for automated branding services is huge, and the onboarding process via the Brand Genie quiz is actually as easy as Prestobox claims. There is no snobby agency jargon on the Prestobox site. Instead, small business owners will find a straightforward solution to their simple problem.
